Remember You

There is a lot of stuff on the internet, including Facebook, about the need for “self care”. But no one, REALLY talks about what it is, what they do.

Right off the top, self-care includes things like exercise, facials, manicures, pedicures, getting your hair done. But what about having a shower? For me the feel of the hot water falling on my head and down my back is very relaxing. What about just soaking in a bath?

I lot of what we hear and see is about the physical self-care, that sometimes we do because we need to, and not so much because it feels good, or because WE feel good.

The trickier part is dealing with the emotional self care. Finding that activity or things to do which make us feel good. Grabbing that super soft blanket and just laying on the couch. Feeling the sun on your skin. Reading. Listening to music which gets you emotionally charged (in a good way), and excited. Each of us will have different things that give us that little boost.

Emotional self care is finding those small things which we do and help us quiet our thoughts and focus on what is immediately happening around us, or how we feel. We are often too busy looking after others, in our jobs, family, partners, and dealing with every other demand that we ignore ourselves.

And then one day, you have had enough. The breaking point has been reached. Something mean is said or done. And everything changes.

The point of my commentary today is take time for you. Take time to tell everyone “I need 30 minutes. I am going to sit on the patio and drink my coffee. Please, just give me 30 minutes to myself. “ It takes time for people to adjust, but those 30 minutes can be especially healing, so long at you are clearing your mind and focusing on something OTHER than what you “need” to do.

Be Kind to Yourself.

Be pink.
